Objectives: Given adequate amounts of firewood (tinder, kindling and fuel) and two (2) matches, each team will be required to construct a fire in a prepared firepit and bring ½ liter (approx 16 oz) of water in a pot to boil in the least amount of time.  Teams will be given a maximum of one (1) hour to complete this station.

 Material Provided:

-         Dried fire wood (tinder, kindling and fuel)

-         Matches

-         Prepared firepit (barbeque stand)

-         Small metal pot

-         Water

 Additional Material Required/Permitted:

-         Pocket knife

 Rules:

-         Each team will be provided identical piles of fire building material.  Additional material will be provided to teams as requested with a time penalty of 10 minutes per load.

-         Each team will be provided two (2) matches.  Additional matches will be provided to teams as requested with a time penalty of 5 minutes per match.

-         Fire accelerate (starter log) will be provided to teams as requested with a time penalty of 30 minutes.

-         Additional water will be provided to teams as requested with a time penalty of 0 minutes.

-         Teams that fail to bring the required amount of water to boil within the specified time limit will be given a time penalty of 30 minutes.
